Whether you’re starting a new opportunity, exploring a career change, seeking ways to contribute, or hoping to regain control and security with regard to your finances, learn more about how coaching can support you in this domain.
Career Coaching
A global Gallup poll in 2017 discovered that approximately 85% of individuals working full-time around the world are not engaged or happy with their jobs. This may seem astonishing, but consider how many factors there are to give thought to when choosing a job or career. Many individuals have to consider the financial aspect of what they’ll earn, family members or others who they support financially, what type of work they enjoy doing each day, and the types of industries and systems within which they are willing to to work. When all these factors can’t be accommodated simultaneously, how do we choose which ones are most important? These are decisions with a lot of weight and might require some support.
College is tremendously expensive in today’s world, and there is a lot of pressure on young adults who are attending college to make the “right” choice for their long-term happiness and financial futures - all at an age when personality is developing and self-discovery is prime. The pressure can cause physical, emotional, and financial stress.
According to the Pew Research Center, more than 11 million, or 18% of parents in the United States are stay at home parents. Stay at home parents face a unique set of challenges when considering their decision to stay home, including a society that lags behind in understanding the value of parenting and home work, navigating different types of boundaries than those with an outside work place, and making time to care for their own needs.
If you are in a phase of life where you don’t need to work, have retired, or are experiencing time off due to a medical issue or disability, you may desire to contribute in other ways. The ways we spend our time working, volunteering, and contributing can comprise a large part of our identity and it’s just as important that these activities feel authentic for us too. It’s also important to consider the social and emotional benefits of contributing by helping others in need or experiencing enjoyable social relationships.
Wherever you are on your journey, career coaching can help you discover more about yourself and your priorities. We’ll find strategies that help you make decisions that are congruent with your values, therefore reinforcing a strong chance at long-term fulfillment in this life domain. Together we’ll also find ways to maximize gratification with your choices through development of boundaries and quality self-care routines.
Financial Empowerment
It can be difficult to take control over your life or experience security without strong management over your financial well-being. Some individuals find money management challenging because they don’t have the information, but many do. So what’s the problem? As we know, having information does not always translate in to action.
A CareerBuilder poll found that 78% of workers in the United States are living pay-to-paycheck. Many of these individuals are unemployed or underemployed, working minimum wage jobs, are single parents supporting children, or are students, but many are also making more than $100,000 per year. This tells us we have a long way to go as a society in terms of addressing income inequality, but it also tells us that there are additional considerations involved.
Money management is tied to a variety of complex psychological and societal factors that we can explore. Developing positive money management skills and behaviors begins with enhancing awareness of where you came from, where you are now, and where you want to be in the future. We’ll explore factors holding you back from finding the security and control that you desire, and develop an empowering plan for you to take that control back.
Money is a commonly identified challenge in marriages, domestic partnerships, and families. Information, self-discovery, skill development, planning, and communication are essential elements in the realization of financial well-being. Together, we can organize and connect the pieces.
